Heitzman Traditional Bakery & Deli has been in the Louisville Metro Area for 133 years. Back in 1891, Jacob Heitzman started the long history of baking and decorating cakes. In 1924, his son, Charles Heitzman, continued the baking tradition and created the famous “Butter Kuchen” and “Strawberry Whip Cream Cake.” Charles’ expertise was in decorating. He was an award-winning, nationally recognized master baker. In 1954, the late Mary Agnes Heitzman and Paul Osting Sr. expanded the variety of offerings and started the catering division. The history of Heitzman Traditional Bakery is legendary in Louisville and the world. We continue to serve families and businesses alike!

With the Fourth Generation Heitzman family continuing to run and operate the 133-year-old business, the growth of our famous bakery is boundless. The great-granddaughter of Jacob Heitzman has rejuvenated and reestablished the grand vision that Charles Heitzman saw. 

Marguerite married Daniel "Dan" Schadt in 1992. The Schadts combined Dan's expert business mind and world-class baking talent with Marguerite's great ability to anticipate what the customer desires. Their skill combination has skyrocketed the business into a one-stop shop for baked goods, pastries, decorated wedding cakes, and delicious catering offerings. Without the decades of dedication and foresight of Marguerite and Dan Schadt, Heitzman Traditional Bakery would not still be an American Staple. 

Dan and Marguerite are proud to say that their son, Matthew, has come on as the Fifth Generation Heitzman Family member and is working to continue what his four generations of ancestors have established. Additionally, he is planning on making sure the name "Heitzman" is one that everyone will know. Along with his fiance, Katie - who matches the dedication, determination, and heart that Charles Heitzman would be proud of - the Heitzman Family is eager to see what the future will bring for their great bakery.

The Heitzman Traditional Bakery Family wants to say that while we have accomplished many feats since 1891, we would not be here or be the great business we are today without the wonderful and supportive staff we have been privileged to work with over the many years.

Located in the heart of Louisville at 9426 Shelbyville Road, we continue to create our legendary donuts, danish, kuchens, muffins, hand-crafted wedding cakes, and hot breakfast sandwiches. You can even visit for lunch! We encourage you to dine in or take out for dinner. Everything in the bakery and our kitchen is produced with the best quality ingredients and made seven days a week.

Company and gourmet trays are available for morning or afternoon deliveries. Let us Cater your next event! Everything is delivered to your front door, with sandwiches, pasta, fresh fruit, ”hot” casseroles, and vegetables. Don’t forget the dessert tray with assorted cookies and homemade bars.

Visit us and dine in or carry out. From donuts to specialty “wedding cakes,” we are here to serve you and your family and friends. Let us cook your holiday meal: turkey, dressing, green beans, sweet potatoes, fluffy dinner rolls, and yummy pumpkin pie.
